When I went to Ridgewood Coffee Company, I went in with high expectations. The reputation of the coffee shop is firmly built on its popularity within the city. However, I am not a fan.
While the coffee is delicious, the menus offers lots of variety, and the location on Main Street in Ridgewood is great, it lacks in overall atmosphere. When I walked in, I was immediately engulfed in loud overpowering music. Music definitely has its place in coffee shop culture; but, I think in this case it takes away from having a good working environment. Instead of the music being in the background, it appeared to be at center stage. The tables were scattered with people on laptops with headphones trying to working and I don't think the music made this a very conducive environment to do so.
When my order was being taken, I also felt that I was being rushed. There was no-one in line behind me but while waiting for my dad to tell me his order the barista appeared visibly annoyed.
I see the appeal of Ridgewood Coffee Company. I just think that the loud music and the lack of customer service takes away from an otherwise very nice coffee shop. If you want a better experience, I recommend walking up the street to American Bull Dog Coffee Roasters. A Brew-view for them is coming soon!
